The Unexpected Plup
Close your eyes and imagine you are about to purchase a bottle of water. As you select your bottle of water, what does it look like? Probably something like one of these bottled water options:

Now imagine as you go to select your bottle, you notice something new, something different:

Plup is also bottled water, but unexpected when compared with the standard bottles.
Seth Godin in his book Purple Cow: Transform Your Business by Being Remarkable explains that as interruption-based advertising becomes less and less effective, businesses will need to gain attention by offering remarkable products that stand out in the crowd. He states:
In a crowded marketplace, fitting in is failing. In a busy marketplace, not standing out is the same as being invisible.
So, if your bottled water product looks like every other bottled water product, and it has nothing else remarkable about it, it will be invisible and may not succeed.
Godin further states:
Something remarkable is worth talking about. Worth noticing. Exceptional. New. Interesting. It’s a Purple Cow. Boring stuff is invisible. It’s a brown cow.
Plup is different – unexpected – new – interesting – it breaks the pattern – it is worth talking about. It’s a purple cow in a field of brown cow bottled waters. Would it stand out and get your attention? Yes – definitely.
Plup is made in Finland and donates money from each bottle sold to cleaning up the Baltic Sea. The bottles are made from HDPE plastic and the company encourages people to reuse and recycle their unexpected bottles.
