The Three-Way-Win

We have all heard of ‘think win-win’ from Stephen Covey’s classic book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. However, I am starting to see great examples of ‘think win-win-win’ or what I (with some help) termed the three-way-win.

As I went for my run over the weekend I listened to a podcast from John Jantsch at Duct Tape Marketing Podcast. John interviews well known authors and authorities on topics relating to small business and marketing. On this occasion I listened to John interview Alan Weiss an author and expert on effective consulting approaches. It was an excellent interview. There are three winners from this style of podcast:

  1. The authors / authorities, who get free exposure to John’s podcast audience – an audience who may be inclined to further investigate the products and services offered by that author / authority (or the company they represent).
  2. John Jantsch, who gets valuable content to attract people to his Duct Tape Marketing business and he also gains credibility by association with these authors and authorities
  3. The listeners who have access to an excellent source of information at no cost.

I had another excellent three-way-win example recently when I set up this blog. The initial blog setup was performed for me by Ninja Blog Setup at no cost. As part of the arrangement I organised my blog hosting account through an affiliate link on the Ninja Blog Setup website. Once again there were three winners:

  1. The hosting company who got a new customer
  2. Ninja Blog Setup who got an affiliate link commission for providing the new customer (effectively his payment for the blog setup)
  3. (and best of all) Me who got my initial blog setup for free.

So, in your future adventures, don’t just ‘think win-win’ (that’s so 90s), think three-way-win.
