Hi Olivia

As it turns out someone else had also asked for how the MityMic fared in environments of background noise. So I took some recordings today before I saw your comments. I have created a new post with these samples tonight at http://www.unexpectedidea.com/ipod-mitymic-background-noise. I hope these samples are useful. As I note in the post I think the MityMic does a good job at filtering out more distant background noise, so should work well in outside / playground / cafe recording.

If you are fully charged when you start recording I think you should be fine for 2 hours plus with battery. Bigger issue will be file size. For longer recordings I think you will need to select a lower record quality in whatever recording app you use so the file size is manageable.

Hi again

also how long does the battery last for long recordings? eg lectures, plays, etc

is there a way it can stay charged while recording?

Hi Brendon,

This is very helpful! But I will definitely be doing recording in locations with background noise - eg outside with traffic, at a kids playground, in a cafe.

Could you do a few recordings in those type of locations?

Thanks heaps!

Hi Graham. Thank you for your latest comment and apologies for not getting back to you sooner on your question relating to Voxie Pro. I quite like VoxiePro and I note that it is also recommended by TouchMic.com. I haven't used iTalk so much, so it may be okay too. You may want to check out 'HT Professional Recorder'. I haven't tried it, so I couldn't directly recommend it, but the writeup in the apps store states "this is the recorder to get if you care how things sound when recorded at a distance. Signal processing algorithms capture conversations throughout a room, recording both near and distant voices clearly". It also has the ability to set a gain sensitivity, so that you can amplify at source rather than edit the volume in Audacity. It could be interesting to trial 'HT Professional Recorder' - maybe the focus of a future blog entry.

Thanks for this post, Brenden! I'm impressed with the quality as far as 2+ meters away. If the input is constant at a distance, presumably you can boost it in Audacity (if necessary) to get a reasonable sound output.

(On your advice, I've switched over from iTalk to VoxiePro.)

Thanks again!
